I never did know why he wanted to be on Survivor. He said it was to ‘find himself’. I always thought that was bullshit, myself. I’d go for the adventure, to search for idols, see the chicks in their bikinis. Actually underwear, that’s what they make them wear. I would’ve been self-conscious doing that, just my luck they would choose something dorky for me to wear. Remember Phillip’s pink briefs? The weather wouldn’t bother me, just the rice. Jeff snuffed his torch first.

I wonder if he ever found himself, and where the hell is he, he never came home?

When I saw this photo by Susan A Eames on Friday Fictioneers today I immediately had a story. I think it took three minutes to write, now, that’s 100 Word Flash Fiction.

Survivor is my favorite television show. Susan Eames told me she used to live in Fiji and took this photo there. That’s where Survivor is filmed, how about that?

To read the other stories by FF Writers prompted by the guy in the tree, here’s the frog link. And what the hell! It’s barely noon on Wednesday and 39 writers have already posted stories. It’s FRIDAY Fictioneers, people!

  1. At least they
    re both interesting characters

  2. I had similar thoughts when I saw this pic… but, I haven’t written, yet. Still letting it roast in my brain. I liked your take on it.

    1. Thanks, don’t let it roast too long.

  3. Nice one, Ted. Survivor is filmed in Fiji, where I used to live and where I took this photo. 🙂

    1. Wow, how about that!!! I thought I recognized that tree. I’ve seen every minute of Survivor.

  4. I’ll just stay home and watch it on TV thanks 🙂

    1. Me too, Iain, I’m too damn old now, but I would loved to have done it.

  5. Dear Ted,

What a refreshing take on the prompt. I like what you did here. 😀

  6. Survivor is not always filmed in Fiji – but this one was! And I am a true-blue fan, too! Have watched it since the second half of the first season – I hadn’t planned on watching it but my sister went on and on about it so I started… then never stopped.
    Great take on the prompt!

    1. I know, I always enjoyed seeing the different places and cultures. But Fiji is their permanent home now. I did exactly the same thing as you, and when my neighbor went on and on about it I started watching halfway into the first season and got hooked. I think the second season was my fave. That’s when being on Survivor almost killed you, literally.

      1. Is it really? You mean, no more going to other areas? You’re talking about Africa – that was the worst!

      2. All Fiji now. Yes Africa was bad too, probably the harshest as far as living conditions. Do you watch the Pondarosa videos?

  7. I’ll pass on survivor but I liked your tale.

  8. I hope he found himself. I never saw survivor, our version is very lame and silly.

  9. I did briefly consider a Survivor story, but I’ve only watched it a couple of times. So I went with what I knew 🙂 Good one. I enjoyed it very much.

  10. I love Survivor, too. Great take on the photo….

  11. Sounds like he didn’t. Survive, that is.

  12. Robinson Creuso syndrome, or is it the begnning of the extinction.

    1. Hadn’t thought of that.

  13. Love Survivor too! Wonder where he ended up. Entertaining story!!

    1. Thanks, Brenda, always fun to find fellow Survivors.

  14. A good story and well written, Ted. I’ve never watched “Survivor” but I’ve heard it’s very popular. It seems the person who was on the show found it wasn’t what he thought and went elsewhere. Who knows what goes on in some people’s heads. —- Suzanne

  15. I love those weeks when the story muse flows and the words come easy and fast. This one is funny and on the nose as far as Survivor goes. We used to watch every season; now I haven’t seen it in ages! Fun story, Ted.

  16. I haven’t had network TV in about 5 years. Survivor is one I miss.
    Thanks for taking me back.

  17. I wouldn’t feel comfortable on TV in only my underwear either, even if they were pink.
