WHO???… a drabble for Fri Fic

“Hi, Cheryl, it’s me, Ethel. Guess what we have to watch!”

“Not another reality show, please.”

“No, it’s science-fiction!!!  A guy travels around in a British police station saving the world from aliens!”

“Great, you probably got that from Kate, I think she flies around in a Photo Booth”.

“No, Betty.”

“Hockey Betty? I thought she only watched Survivor and Big Brother.”

“She turned me on to sci-fi! It’s a great show; you have to watch.”

“What’s this policeman’s name?”

“Who. He’s not a cop he’s a doctor.”

“Okay, a doctor?”

“Stop saying who, Ethel.”

“He’s Doctor Who, dammit!!!

Love the photo by Roger Bultot, that Rochelle Wisoff- Fields picked for this week’s Friday Fictioneers prompt.  Be sure to read her story… and all the other Fictioneers stories. Thanks for reading mine, it’s been a while.

On a side note… I usually don’t divulge my inspiration for characters… but in this case, Kate is based on a friend of mine in Austraila with a very interesting blog… please visit and say Hi.  I think you will like her as much as I.  Photobooth Journal

One final note… this story is dedicated to my granddaughter, UlaG, who is a frequent contributor to TedBook and a Doctor Who Fanatic.

  1. Ted Very funny 🙂 “Doctor Who?”

  2. Ah Doctor Who! Nicely done Ted! Are you doing fri fic after long or have I been away from the scene very long?

    1. This is the third one I’ve done in nine months. Been a busy year, but that’s not really a good excuse. Missing your writing.

    1. That was hilarious, B. Thanks.

  3. Dear Ted,

This sounds like a modern day Who’s on First. Entertaining conversation. I’m happy you chose to participate this week. 😀

    1. Thanks, Rochelle… this was one of those prompts that just immediately wrote itself… and I had the time to do it. I have a bunch of half-written stories that never made it and then the week had passed. I have a couple dictated on my phone after I see your post and was just too busy to get back to finish… or forgot.

  4. My son loved this! (I did too).

    1. So glad you shared it! I still have to read yours.

    1. ‘Classic’… Oh, I love that!

  5. My nieces are avid Dr. Who fans… they would love this!
    Fun piece!

    1. Thanks, Dale. Pass it on to them. My granddaughter loved it, even if she didn’t know who Ethel & Cheryl are.

  6. Another great Ethel and Cheryl story. Too funny Ted!! I actually used to watch ‘Dr. Who’, it was a pretty good program.

  7. Who’s on first, Ted? It’s great to have you back, and the girls too!

    1. Thanks, Jenn, it was fun to read you again. I haven’t even had time to read stories. Next year, new priorities.

  8. Ha! I thought of the Tardis when I saw this photo, too! Now I have to think of something else. 😐

  9. Excellent play on words, Ted. Abbott & Costello would be proud.

    1. Abbott & Costello Who?

  10. Nobody has said who the hell is Kate? And why would she be flying around in a photobooth? I may have alluded to the fact that I think of a photobooth as a time machine somewhere in my blog. I really just want to think I have something in common with Doctor Who. I totally adore that show! I have seen every episode that has ever been aired. (Including repeat black and white episodes that were shown long before I was allowed to watch it. ) It was my favourite show as a kid, an adolescent, a young adult etc etc. to the present day. I love the fact Ethyl thinks he is in a flying police station, rather than a police call box. Thanks for making me part of the ‘Whoniverse’ , Ted. I am thrilled!

    1. I remembered you were a Dr Who Fanatic and that’s why you are in the story. And your Photobooth Journal is a Time Machine as we well know. I have never identified anyone, although ‘Hockey Betty’ knows who she is I’m sure.

      1. p.s. Ethel gets confused

  11. That was good ! I liked that. You should get a cartoonist and publish your Adventures of Cheryl and Ethel.

    1. Thanks! I should do one of them… but then I’d have to figure out what they look like.

  12. It’s amazing how many of us saw a TARDIS this week 🙂

    1. First thing I saw… dumb me, I didn’t think others might see it too.

      1. I’m on Dr Who overload at the moment, new and classic. I even bought a really cool Dr Who Christmas jumper from the BBC shop!

      2. I’ll have to look at the shop for Ula.

  13. Now I really must go and watch Dr. Who. This was such a fun read…

    1. Thanks! I bribe my granddaughter to write stories for TedBook with episodes of Dr.Who… usually doesn’t work, but it did a week ago.

  14. I guess this would be the “Who’s in Tardis” routine. 🙂 Nice story.

  15. Haha…good take on Abbot and Costello.

  16. Haha! Very funny, Ted. Who is Doctor Who? It’s such a fun question to ask! It kind of rolls off the tongue. Great to see you, Ted.

  17. Sounds like two of my aunts!

  18. Great fun. Thanks for the link to Kate’s site. Very good.

  19. Aha! Another ‘Who done it’ story. Nicely done.

  20. Great to have you back Ted! It always gives my heart a little hug, to picture you in Friday Harbor, connecting through FF. 🙂 Fun dialogue, and play on Hu’s on first.

  21. Ha! Ha! Who’s on first?
